Google PR Dashboard Widget - A Great Way for SEO Experts to Get a PR Number

Google PR Widget is a useful tool made by developer, Ran Aroussi, that helps Mac OSX users grab the PR number for any web site page straight from the OSX dashboard.

The great advantage of this is that you don't have to install the Google Toolbar for FireFox or anything else to find out the PR rank of your pages. Admittedly you can't crawl a site page by page as easily using the PR dashboard widget, but it's still a great way of doing spot checks on URLs and getting the quick response you need and desire.

What is Google Page Rank (PR)?

For those of you who don't know, and as discussed in the LunchMeet #52 interview with SEO Expert Eric Wolfram and covered in our LunchMeet #52 Review about search engine optimisation and the kinds of tips and techniques Eric Wolfram uses, Google PR is a number calculated and used by Google based around a number of factors that rates the importance of a single page. The PR rank, as I understand it, is a logarithmic scale, 1 through 10, that becomes increasingly harder to scale, so that a 1 is 10 times harder to reach than a 0, and a 2 is 100 times harder to reach than a 1, and so on and so forth. As far as I can tell, there is NO such thing as a 10, not even Google is ranked at 10.

Finding out the PR for a page or site is one thing, but of course how do you improve the page rank of pages on your site is a whole other matter and a topic of discussion for a completely different article, and I digress from the topic in hand, the Google PR Widget.

Conclusion: A VERY Useful SEO Tool

As it goes, the widget is exceedingly easy to download and install, much as with any other Mac OSX dashboard widget, and once install is nothing more than 2 clicks away from acheiving the end result. I personally keep the widget installed on my dashboard at all times and make frequent use of it when working on search engine optimisation projects for clients. I can't live without it and any other SEO'er shouldn't either.
